I updated my website with a walk through of my newest portrait "Friends forever" if you want to view larger pics of the step by step click zoom or visit my website i uploaded huge image http://www.katerinaart.com/
Tips and tricks:
My apologies if some of the pics are grainy, i used my digital camera to take
the WIP pics instead of scanning.
Here are some tips and tricks
i used to create my "Friends Forever" artwork. This was a portrait artwork completed with graphite and charcoal pencils
I started out by shading very lightly the entire portrait and kitty with an H2 pencil
i kept my shading smooth and my pencil strokes close to each other without adding pressure to my pencil.
I used charcoal General's 2b medium pencil for the eyes
eyebrows , kitty eyes and all dark areas . When using charcoal over pencil you have to be careful not to use too many layers of graphite
charcoal pencil will never go over it , it will glide.
I blend charcoal very lightly with a pencil stump for larger areas i use tissue or chamois cloth.
The girls skin tones, hair, earring(jewelry),hands/arms worked with graphite.
The shirt design worked with a light coat of h2 pencil
and then used my stump that already had charcoal residue to do the
dots designs i went over with charcoal for darker spots.
I then move on shading the kitty with my pencil stump and adding more
darker contrast with my charcoal pencil, for the eyes, nose ,
the kitty's fur is worked
with only residue form charcoal and my kneaded eraser which i use to pull out
highlights, for really extra white highlights i use my electric eraser
I added some shading in the background and then used my kneaded
eraser to give a cloudy almost faded effect.
You can see what the final portrait looks like,
hope you enjoyed the step by step.
