At a young age I demonstrated strong skills in drawing and painting. It became clear to my parents that the artistic part of me was strong and needed to grow. I drew countless figures and horses that became the basis for unicorns, mermaids, warriors and many other fantastic characters. I was also a perfectionist and tried to outdo myself with every sketch that followed.
Inspired by the fantasy cartoons of the 80s and 90s I began to re-create certain favorite characters in which I then began to teach myself different skills and techniques. I had always received above-average marks in the arts throughout elementary school.
During my teen years, I discovered a love for comics and drew everything from Wolverine to Vampirella. I really loved the line art that comics were known for and strived to be as good as the artists I was inspired by. Art class in high school introduced me to acrylic painting amongst other mediums that came easy to me. When I wasn't drawing or painting, I was hooked on playing video games on my NES which also became another source for artistic inspiration.
In my early 20s I ventured off to Winnipeg, Manitoba and Thunder Bay, Ontario with a dear friend who is exceptionally talented with a paint brush. In showing me a few techniques and by watching him paint, a whole new world had opened up to me and my art. I then began to produce aboriginal paintings which were later sold to various galleries and private collectors.
Now in the present day I currently study in oils on illustration board. I am entirely self-taught in the oils medium as we work incredibly well with one another. For 2 years oils and I have been working closely together and continue to explore the wild road of fantasy illustration when I am not conquering new worlds on my Xbox 360.
