Shoebill Stork by HouseofChabrier

11" X 14" Drawing of a Shoebill Stork drawn and painted of Canson Oatmeal Scrapbook paper from a photograph taken by Gambassi on Deviant Art. To see more work of Gambassi go to :http://gambassi.deviantart.com/

This, dear friends, is a Shoebill Stork or a Whale Stork based on the shape and size of his bill. Yes, the girls look like this too. They are the Jimmy Durante of storks, are about 5' tall, and have about a 6 foot wingspan. They are part of my odd and extraordinary drawing campaign to give some love and attention to underappreciated animals and birds on this wonderful planet called earth. I have taken many photos of these birds from a distance and fairly close at the San Diego Wild Animal park, where they walk in the pond and reeds among the ducks and pelicans. However, this head shot taken by Gambassi shows of the unique head feathers, lovely blue eyes to paint, and the antique rough beak or bill.

Thank you, I'm drawing all of the creatures that are under-appreciated, unknown, and unloved. Works of art created by God and natural selection that have survived, and are now quietly disappearing because of lack of concern, love, and interest. I love all creatures, and want them to survive and thrive. My drawings are in protest of ever bird and mammal killed, by greed, stupidity and ignorance. I love all the animals and birds on this planet. I saw this one first at the San Diego Zoo, and they are so large, and so quiet and still. Strange but wonderful creatures, and I'm glad you love and enjoy them. Thank you for your kind words!

That's funny. Do you have a mean look that says: What was God thinking? Maybe you are endangered and rare too! Or perhaps he has a job as a chef, and all chefs are just pissed off like in Hells Kitchen.
