I read ever Albert Payson Terhune book he ever wrote. Lassie, Lassie come Home, Lad a Dog, Bob a Collie, and the list goes on. I would have a collie for they are so beautiful, but that long hair takes a lot of grooming and up keep. Plus my husband loves German Shepherds, and I have come to love their playfulness and intelligence too.

My favorite dog for my entire life was my dog Lobo, the first German Shepherd I ever had, and the dog I still love the most. He was my soul mate for dogs. He was smart, we understood each other, and he was the best protector and companion dog I ever had. He was brave, kind, patient and loving with children, and could play volley ball, and soccer. He was a delight his entire life, and he died two years ago, and I miss him still!

My dog Lobo was the absolute best, he understood anything I told him in english, and I could speak to him in a normal tone like a conversation. He didn't bark at other dogs or strangers, but went on alert if someone approached me who was acting weird. He knew if I got him when I answered the front door, he was to stand, not be aggressive, but be aware and present. He never would greet or acknowledge any man unless I reached out and shook his hand. Other wise he was a stranger, and to be ignored. He knew the pool man, the electric man, never gave anyone any grief or cause for alarm. He loved children, but also knew to be more gentle with little ones, or my dad who was wobbly on his legs and walked with a cane. He played ball with them, but a very easy, gentle version. He was so intelligent, and I still love and miss him so. His son is sweet, but not as smart, brave or quick.
