This is a pilaster I carved in my studio, this photo is taken out on my driveway. The Pilaster is carved from 4 pound density foam for DEC Associates. It is 8 feet high and I think 36" wide at the top and smaller at the base. I carved it a long time ago maybe 10 or 15 years. I did quite a number of carvings for the Luxor Hotel including winged Scarabs, decorative friezes, and textured wall panels. All the foam was coated with Automotive primer, shipped to the plant in Mexico, and molds were made parts were cast out of Fiber Reinforced Gypsum, or fiberglass, and then some were shipped back to me, and I air brushed them with Automotive paint. I selected that paint for it ability to Adhere to Fiberglass (think of a Corvette), plus some of the parts would be easy to touch and I wanted the finish to stand up to abuse.
