Kaede by HillbillyDeluxe

A unique tree in my area with multicoloured fall foliage.

The light pollution in my area is hard to escape as you can tell from the shot. I have a couple ideas how to deal with it but I'll have to go back this weekend and try again.

I see my fave constellation Orion there. The light-up tree is pretty cool. I find the best place I could get a star shot would be our nearest mountain right here in town but I never been up there at night O_o I had to settle for a shot one morning in my yard as the sun was coming up. Not a good shot, but not bad either.
Congrats on the DI. This is NICE.

Thank you. I'm glad you like it. Orion is one of my favs too just for the simple reason that it is easy to find!

Thank you for the fav too!

That's amazing, Tom I can see what you mean about the light pollution. What species of tree is it?

Thanks Will! The lights are really hard to escape. It seems every farmer in Japan has a vending machine and stadium lights on all night!

I think this is a "kaede" or a Japanese maple. I'm not the botanist I used to be...

A real pleasure, Tom. Seems they're wasting a lot of energy then
I know most of the indigenous trees in the UK, but when it comes to introduced species I'm lost

This place is horrible for office buildings ablaze at 11pm at night because the employees are still in the office "working" *ahem* but that is a different story. I have no clue about plants. That was me mum's department.

With the energy crisis in Japan, I'd have thought there would be curbs against wasteful use.
It was my Gramp who got me interested in nature & wildlife, from a very early age. He was the Head Gamekeeper at the Duke of Bedford's Estate at Woburn Abbey & Park, and I can remember back to when I was 3-4yrs old, sitting on his shoulders, coming out of a wood & being told to "Shush, and watch that Stoat take that Rabbit" Both he & my mum kept me on the environmental track, even when I went into the RAF

You would think but in all honesty, the energy crisis is a sham. The gov't and big corporations put profit before people, again. It's par for the course.

Your grandfather and mother were of an era that understood what it meant to live with the land. The give and take that it required. My great grandparents were the same. Unfortunately, it's not the way it works in modern society.

      Was the RAF anti-environmental?

Talking of energy, we've just had a 45 min. power cut

Those were the days, my friend, when I'd go down the garden to get the veg for dinner. We also had an orchard at the bottom, 4 Apple, 2 Pear & 2 Plum trees

With all the air miles I could say no, but for me at the time, early '60s, it was great. The wildlife & the landscape was wonderful, especially in North Wales, when I was stationed at RAF Valley, on Anglesey.

I didn't know that the UK suffered from brown-outs. It is ridiculous here. The gov't and the power companies encourage us to cut back on electricity to save them money and yet they hand out bonuses and dividends like everyday is Christmas! A joke...just a big joke on the people of this country.

Me too! I remember my mother sending me out to pull a few carrots and pick enough peas for dinner that night. My greatest fear was canning season. I had to pick a lot then and to tell the truth it wasn't my favourite thing to do.

Our MPs are going to get a £20,000 + pay-rise while the workers, nurses, teachers & the other services get nothing, and even cuts. Bloody Tories, always look after their own. The rich get richer & poor die.

And I heard that their is some kind of House of Lords rent scandal going on right now. Honestly, if you want to serve as a elected public official...you should do it for minimum wage. The job should be born from civic pride not self preservation and greed.

Haha...Tories are the same worldwide. Too bad Nick and the Lib Dems are a bunch of wishy washy fence sitting liars. I thought they were going to be able to keep Cameron and his cronies under control but sadly it's not the case.

Not the Lords, the Commons MPs, renting out their own homes & paying rent to live in another MPs home, so money coming out of the Public Purse. Bastards! Minimum Wage Now that's the way to do it Let 'em see who the folk who pay their bills live.

Both Clegg & Cameron make me want to get my katana & wakashasi out, and head for London.

      Oops...sorry MPs.

I don't really see the reason for the HoL. Similar to the Cdn Senate...useless in my opinion.

And seriously, how can any politico understand the plight of the poor and middle class when constantly viewing them through the lenses of privilege and pity.

Minimum wage or free...then for sure we would see some action.

At some point there will be major reform of the HoL, but it's taking a long time.
News today says the the UK is now out of recession. Pull the other one, it's got bells on

Pay 'em for the work they do, not sitting on their arses in the Chambers, shouting at each other.

Here in Japan we want them to sit there more. Hell, half the time they aren't in the legislature legislating anything! Most of them are just plotting a way to make sure they get their "golden parachute" for when they retire. Lazy crooked bastards. *shakes fist*
