Thank you! I had to rush to take it as the monkeys don't tend to stay in one place for very long.

Foreground is a little too prominent for me and distracting, but with a 'crowded day at the pool' what can you do I guess. The central figures are a great capture though, and the darkened rich tones throughout are very nice.

Thanks Shawn. Do you think a crop would help? I'll give it a try and see how it looks.
Feb 21st Reply C'mon Pookie...The bath is always crowded in the colder months. I think they feed them there too so the little critters hang around for the summer months but don't venture into the pool too much.

Idk if a crop will help because you won't really ever get back the water effects hidden by the foreground party. But it may help, nothing wrong with the background at all that is about the perfect balance of blur, so a square crop incorporating a lot of that space could help.
Feb 21st ReplyWhat might have helped was a higher viewpoint for the shot, a foot up or down can make all the difference sometimes. If you could have rose up a little could have worked around the foreground, but that might have lost some of the water reflection effects or rearing up might have disturbed the monkeys [maybe not, they seem pretty chill]. As it is though the
HillbillyDeluxe
LOL...these are the chillest monkeys you can find...anywhere! You're right about a bit higher. I tend to include too much in my shots and still struggle with it.

(con'd) The shooting conditions were pretty narrow, physically I mean. There's not a lot of room and many of the tourists are jockeying for positions. Can't blame them because it's quite an impressive place to be and see, so I would want to get great pictures too. Shooting from the bridge might be a better option next time. Will have to give it a try. Thanks for the advice.

Excellent shot. They may be wild animals but they give a sense of loving warmth. Why do they call if Hell Valley?
Jan 16th ReplyHillbillyDeluxe
They do, don't they!
It is a very active place for geysers and hot springs. Lots of steam in winter and must of reminded the original discoverers of the valley of hell. (This is just a guess.)

Jan 8th Reply who wants a hug?HillbillyDeluxe
Cute but wild and aggressive!
Jan 8th Reply C'mon Pookie...Lucifer
so i bet they can attack you :) is that something like zoo or they are free?
Jan 8th Reply who wants a hug?HillbillyDeluxe
This is more like a conservation park. The monkeys run around freely and the tourists can mingle with them.
Jan 8th Reply C'mon Pookie...There are very strict rules as to what we can and cannot do. I guess some people forget that they are wild animals and treat them more like a pet and occasionally get in trouble for it.
There are conservation officers walking around and generally keep the peace between the monkeys and the stupid humans.
Lucifer
"stupid humans"
hahahahaa
Jan 10th Reply who wants a hug?my daughters would love to be there and let monkeys run around. here we have only ZOO where you can not see most of the animals because coop is so big that they can hide very easy or they are too far to even see them
HillbillyDeluxe
Your daughters would love this then.
The monkeys walk right beside you. The only concern is that they can't interact with them in any way. These are still wild monkeys and are not tame at all. There are many rules at the park that we humans have to follow so we don't upset the monkeys.
Jan 10th Reply C'mon Pookie...Lucifer
yes i bet that it must be quite stressful for the monkeys to have so much people around every day. and i am sure not all people follow the rules there :)
Jan 11th Reply who wants a hug?HillbillyDeluxe
I'm not sure about the stress we put on them. They seem to like the spot for the hot bath and food that they get from the park rangers. And luckily most people follow the rules. I haven't heard of any recent incidents happening out there.
