Fushimi Inari Taisha - Kyoto
It was a short hike to the top but the change in elevation helped keep us cool during Kyoto's sweltering, humid summer!
Waited for what seemed to be hours (actual time around 20 minutes) to get this shot without the hundreds of tourists trudging up and down the path.

It's an amazing place.
Sep 10th Reply C'mon Pookie...This shrine is the home of Inari, the god of rice, and is considered the patron of business. Each of the red gates have been donated by a Japanese business and these merchants and manufacturers worship Inari for wealth.
The right post of the gate has the date and the left post has company names and merchant names...as far as I can make out.

Fushimi Inari Taisha is Shinto to the best of my knowledge.
The gates are usually a indicator that it's a shrine but occasionally you'll find gates at a temple's shrine...can get confusing, eh?
