In The Dark of Night

2011 Flood series

At the time this photo was taken this was a park with a lit walking path. At this time the flooding has worsened - and I'm not even sure that you can see these lights any more.

I don't know why - but here on SN I am seeing grey pixel spots - but they don't show up any other sites. hmmmmm..........

LOL! well, she puts on a brave front but she's never been tested so I'm not exactly sure what she would do. She CAN be pretty aggressive so I'd like to think she would stand up but she's very skittish in the dark so she'd probably get spooked and twist her leash around my tripod and knock it over and smash my camera!!

it is surreal to see the lampost almost submerged. Love the intense color and the stars...

This was nothing! NOW the lamp posts are only about a foot above the water! The stars are left over Christmas decorations that they never had a chance to get down before the flooding.

What type of pixelation are you seeing?

      Handie

well, I'm not sure if pixelation is the right word for it - but if you look in the darkest areas (the sky the bottom left hand corner) you can see what looks like a greyish-green noise. It was much worse when I first uploaded it - I've tweaked the file and re-loaded it so it's not so bad anymore. I don't see the same thing when I look at it on DA - and I believe it's larger there.

http://handie.deviantart.com/#/d3fu81a - does it look muddy here compared to there to you?

The one i see on dA looks a bit smaller...i think this version has more clarity. sometimes, you'll see some compression errors on websites, depending on your isp...it rarely has to do with the file itself.

Yeah - it's the exact same file but the blacks seem blacker and a bit clearer. I haven't noticed that with any of my other files, so it must just be something about this particular file.

I have a calibrated and uncalibrated monitor here. i've been shifting them back and forth...i can't perceive much difference, but the one on SN seems to be a bit clearer.

hmmm - I'm seeing it opposite - SN is the one with the muddy areas for me and the other is much cleaner looking. My monitor is calibrated too - if that makes any difference. weird.. ah well - no biggie -

The thing with image quality is that the larger the file you upload, the more the optimization process by the site will be optimal. In this particular case, it's hard to determine honestly. :)

I like the sort of symmetry it gives. And the extreme colours work very well in my opinion.

I did soften the colours a bit from when I first posted it - so it's not so stark now. I think I like it better now than I did before. Thank you again!
