Jun 7th, 2011All photographs are there to remind us of what we forget. In this - as in other ways - they are the opposite of paintings. Paintings record what the painter remembers. Because each one of us forgets different things, a photo more than a painting may change its meaning according to who is looking at it... Life is like a camera Just focus on what’s important Capture the GOOD TIMES… Develop from the negatives And if things don’t turn out Just take another SHOT....
Aug 1st, 2011Hello the name's Alex. I am 20 years old and live in PA. I am still a noob at art. I prefer drawing traditionally and then coloring my art digitally. However, I am trying to switch entirely to drawing on my tablet. I admire many artists and aspire to drawing at their level one day. Don't be surprised if I am not overly confident in my art as I am always critiquing myself and believing I could have done better. I was on other sites like DA, but they are a popularity contest. I draw and create art/stories to enjoy them and improve myself. I am untrained but I appreciate many of the ancient societies and their art. I am heavily inspired by the Egyptian Pantheon and culture. Many of my creations trace their roots to the civilization. Some of the artists I love are Monet, Da Vinci, and Michael Angelo, to name my favorites. If I were to be found in a museum it would be either a natural history museum or an art museum. I love MOMA and The MMOA... The temple of Dundar is breathtaking. I freely admit that I have bi-polar, which means I am heavily influenced by my emotions when drawing. I pour most of my pain or anger into particular pieces, they are usually my best things to date. I am also a music lover. If I find a song I like, I will repeat it for hours on end as I draw so as not to lose my muse. I will probably post a picture with a song title attached to it as I also see lyrics as a metaphor for interpreting my life. I love photography and if I am in the right place at the right time, I will snap a picture. I use a Canon 35mm, sometimes accompanied by a tripod. I prefer a traditional camera compared to digital and if I post a black and white photograph, I will have used black and white film to capture it. Sometimes I feel when using technology I can get lost in the features on say a camera instead of focusing on taking the best picture possible. I also feel that in photography especially, enhancing a photo too much takes away from the beauty of a piece. I am a less is more kind of gal and definitely old school. To me nature is beautiful in a raw form and for billions of years has done fine without me tampering it, so why start now? I am a welcome fan of criticism because I constantly want to improve. So please critique away on any pieces I post. Also, I would love to hear any thoughts on my art, even if you don't like it please say something. It intrigues me to see what others think and try to see things from their angle. All art aside, I am a writer and I am hoping to one day get one of those novels I've written published. As you can probably also tell, I ramble. Do forgive me if I can't stop talking and feel free to shut me up if you wish. ;) Well I can't wait to meet more of you and experience your art. I also hope to meet a few good friends along the way. Thank you for visiting my page and enjoy!
