Redtailed Hawk

by Earleywine in Charcoals

This hawk was on the side of the road eating a snake when I first saw him. I started taking photos, and when he heard the clicking of the camera he kept hopping closer. hahaha I was pretty excited!! This drawing sold right away - but I never liked it. It is anatomically correct - but it does not capture the energy and life of the bird itself. I am going to do another from the front I think - show his eyes better and hopefully do a better job capturing the essence of him.

Thanks :). To me, the thing with this drawing is that if looks like it could be in a field guide for birds...... Everything is correct - but I just feel like I didn't capture the feeling or soul of the bird. I am thinking about doing him again - from the front looking right at me, in conte' crayon and on a piece of that bark paper.
