DarkArtist

DarkArtist Hey Diane, just wanted to say hi and ask you something. I'm not a digital artist (as you surely have already noticed) but I want to give it a try. The thing is I'm thinking of getting a wacom tablet. Do you use one? or any other brand? in your experience... wich one (in terms of size or specific type) is more comfortable to work with? Any help here will be well received. Thank you.

Diane - Alien Girl
Older work (very old one!)

This one is a painted version of my AlienGirl character .
It has been done in photoshop, I had used custom brushes made out of photos, I'm not really happy with it... I might edit it someday :)

Diane

Diane - Would you be my Valentine?
This one may be the most time consuming piece I've ever done :p (and I don't think that I'll do it again, I had started to hate it in the end ^^)
This is part of a serie I'm doing with my best friend about celebrations (Christmas, Valentine's day, etc....), this is actually the first painting of the serie. She's doing the 2nd one, then I'll do the 3rd, etc...

It's about some persons who can harm people who love them then and being lonely and cold, searching for a heart to take, blinded by they feelings, trying to "hunt" for a "love prey"... Dunno if it's very clear...

The tree is a human hearts tree (that may be a little bit erm... gross, I don't know... I just felt like painting real hearts so here's the result ^^).
The peacock feathers symbolise pride and also bad luck. The eyes... well, she's blind ^^
The snow leopard is meant to symbolise her "hunter" behaviour (now blind aswell), the fact that she's sitting on a tree is meant to represent how lonely she feels (and it's also a nice place to search for hearts, remember )

I know that she's breathing against the wind, but making breath right looked wrong so I'm gonna call this thingie "artistic freedom".
The lighting is typical flat snowy weather lighting so there's not a lot of volume.

Photoshop CS and my beloved wacom
50 hours approx.
Ref used for the body and I've taken a look at some snow leopard shots (google is my friend!) to remember how they look like.
No refs for the fabric so it's totally off but I don't really care since this image is not intended to be realistic (I've never seen a heart tree )
I don't know what else to say... I hope you'll enjoy this image, feel free to crit :)
Thanks for viewing!
Thanks a lot to everybody who has helped me in the WIP thread :)

I definately have an issue with web optimised jpg.... it destroys the colourscheme, contrast and volume :( My painting looks flaaaaat (it had not a lot of volume due to the dull lighting, but the jpg version is totally flat!)

Diane

Diane - How to make a blinking avatar
Do you have adobe image ready?
if so :

1 - open the image you want to use as an avatar in photoshop. Save it for the web. Name it 1

2 - create a new layer, draw eyelids (not totally closed) then save it for the web. Name it 2

3 - draw totally closed eyelids, save it for the web. Name it 3.

You should now have 3 different avatars : one with open eyes, another with not totally closed eyes and another with totally closed eyes.

4 - Open them in image ready, create a new file (same size as you want your avatar to be)
Drag and drop all the avatars on it (they'll appear on different layers).

There is a time control bar (with frames, etc) where you can choose to add a new frame.

5 - On this time control bar : create 3 new frames (you now should have 4)
In the first one, hide all the layers except the one where the eyes are wide open. In the second one, hide all except for the one with closed eyes. In the 3rd one, hide all the layers except the ones with nearly closed eyes and in the last one hide all except the one with open ones.

6 - Now you can set the time you want to assign to each frame : choose 5 seconds for the 1st one, 0 for the 2nd one, 0 for the 3rd one and 1 for the last one.

7 - Now you can save an optimised animated gif file :) IT'S DONE!!!

The image displayed shows how yours should look like if you've followed the steps.

Diane

Diane - Slippery went wet
Hi everybody!
This is a collab with Aaron aka seeThrou : http://seethrou.deviantart.com/

His original drawing can be found here : http://seethrou.gfxartist.com/artworks/125386
It has been very fun to paint though I had stopped working on it for a very long time (I had started it some months ago and just finished it today)... I'm sorry for being so late Aaron ;)

Photoshop CS and my wacom,
25 hours approx

Thanks Aaron for this collab, it has been very fun and challenging :)

I hope you'll like it, feel free to crit ;)

The colours may look too light or not saturated enough, I've tried to calibrate my monitor LOTS of time, but it doesn't seem to work well :(

The closeup contains "explicit" stuff (the little sleeping thingie is nude) so if you're afraid of seing a nude thing, don't click it ;)
