Concept:
Welcome Thanaea. Her name is inspired by the names of some of the gorgeous artworks of the illustrator 'Linda Bergkvist'. I just wanted to create a somehow erotical and dangerous character in one person. The funny thing is that an illustrator also is some kind of a designer, figuring out the clothing and stuff. I like the idea of the textile being the wings of the dragon, and I also must admit, that I prefer more simple, useful clothing than many colour- and cheerful nonsense accessoires. I wanted Thanaea to play a bit with her knife. You don't need big, heavy weapons to be lethal.
She would be a very deadly fairy: 'Engelsstaub - Faerieland'.
'A rose for the dead.'
Nice to know:
Assassins were arabic people, who are said to have got their name from their consumption of hashish. I am not quiet sure whether that's real, but the assassins also inspired people writing stories like about the 'Necronomicon' ('Wanderings of Alhazred') and in my opinion it's somehow similar to the east-oriental ninja, mystical and fascinating.
Technics:
After picking many references I created some rough drawings, which I used to illustrate this within Photoshop.
My usual technic is similar to airbrush. Masking the single elements (so I don't need to take that much care of the borders later on). Custom texture brushes increase the credibility. The original size would fit on a poster.
For the fire I also created a custom brush, almost similar to the one I made for candlelights, only more scattering and other random transformations.
