Jan 18th, 2009My name is Hayley, and personally, that's enough that needs to be said about my name, I assume. I'm an artist who is inspired by many things, but mostly, I am inspired by the Spirit. I am a follower of Jesus Christ, and that will NEVER change. In many of my pieces, there will be an attempt to show the spiritual side to an event or maybe even a prayer I just want to synthesize in to something that can be seen in a different way. I'm an artist who varies what materials I use, and I have fun with that. I am not a fan of charcoal, and have an appreciation for the artists who can use it. Maybe one day, I'll be able to find my way to use it as well. In some of my pieces, you will find my symbolism to be very direct. For most artists, this is a limitation. For me, however, it is a pro rather than a con. To leave open the meaning of a piece is to take away its meaning, in many senses. Therefore, if I want to say something through art that is strong, I will attempt as much as possible to make it easy to relate to most of the time, but that doesn't mean it won't be direct. This is not usually an attractive quality in the art world, but this is where we need a revolution, non? Art is not something that should be judged with so many rules as it is. It is something that should be left to the artist to choose how they will portray something, rather than to taint their vision with the vision of others, just because it is the "fad" of the art world. It is fine to use the methods that are popular if they are you- if not, I believe it best to go on about how you feel something should be shown, rather than to change your art. Growing is not a matter of conforming into these popularized methods, it is a matter of finding yourself, not being open. One is far more likely to lose yourself in the process. Now, that does not mean not to study other artists. One should take the time to look at other art, and if they like the features in the art, to use them. However, I don't feel that it is right to open your mind to thinking that their style- or concept- is truth, which is what many people choose to do. If one chooses to believe something, they must test it as what it is. Take art for what it is- an expression. It is not a contest. It is not a ranking process. It is merely the thoughts or feelings of another, but not always of the one who creates it. This is why my pieces are direct. This is why I choose the style I do. This is my explanation, and one should take it as stated, and try not to probe into it very much, for it has more reasoning behind it than is said, mostly in a spiritual sense. I will not leave my pieces open to twisting or interpretation, as it would change drastically the truth of which I have found to be fact. Therefore, I challenge everyone who sees the pieces to take them, learn their concept, and test it.
