Drawing / Cartooning
Hi, I'm Splendid River (that was translated from my real name - Ha Huy Hoang). I'm now an architecture student at the University of Civil Engineering in Hanoi, Vietnam. I want to be a comic artist in the future so I do a lot of study in that. For training, I do a lot of fan art from some American comic charactors in my own style, which is influenced from the cartoon style of Bruce Timm and Sean Cheeks Galloway and many more other artists. But you can still see my own touch in each of my works. I can use a lot of artistic media like pencil, ink pen, water color, chinese ink,... and traditional art is my favourite. But most of my comic fanarts were done digitally in CorelDRAW. I'm now a member of a comic group which includes one of my friends and my cousin. We call ourselves the Comictrio. Here's our website: http://comictrio.road2us.com I'm now also part of a newly-born comic company called Capital Comics that they're working mostly on deviantART. This is my gallery on deviantART: http://splendidriver.deviantart.com Hope you'll support me on my way to become a pro-comic artist . Thank you

Nov 28th, 2008My name is Hayley, and personally, that's enough that needs to be said about my name, I assume. I'm an artist who is inspired by many things, but mostly, I am inspired by the Spirit. I am a follower of Jesus Christ, and that will NEVER change. In many of my pieces, there will be an attempt to show the spiritual side to an event or maybe even a prayer I just want to synthesize in to something that can be seen in a different way. I'm an artist who varies what materials I use, and I have fun with that. I am not a fan of charcoal, and have an appreciation for the artists who can use it. Maybe one day, I'll be able to find my way to use it as well. In some of my pieces, you will find my symbolism to be very direct. For most artists, this is a limitation. For me, however, it is a pro rather than a con. To leave open the meaning of a piece is to take away its meaning, in many senses. Therefore, if I want to say something through art that is strong, I will attempt as much as possible to make it easy to relate to most of the time, but that doesn't mean it won't be direct. This is not usually an attractive quality in the art world, but this is where we need a revolution, non? Art is not something that should be judged with so many rules as it is. It is something that should be left to the artist to choose how they will portray something, rather than to taint their vision with the vision of others, just because it is the "fad" of the art world. It is fine to use the methods that are popular if they are you- if not, I believe it best to go on about how you feel something should be shown, rather than to change your art. Growing is not a matter of conforming into these popularized methods, it is a matter of finding yourself, not being open. One is far more likely to lose yourself in the process. Now, that does not mean not to study other artists. One should take the time to look at other art, and if they like the features in the art, to use them. However, I don't feel that it is right to open your mind to thinking that their style- or concept- is truth, which is what many people choose to do. If one chooses to believe something, they must test it as what it is. Take art for what it is- an expression. It is not a contest. It is not a ranking process. It is merely the thoughts or feelings of another, but not always of the one who creates it. This is why my pieces are direct. This is why I choose the style I do. This is my explanation, and one should take it as stated, and try not to probe into it very much, for it has more reasoning behind it than is said, mostly in a spiritual sense. I will not leave my pieces open to twisting or interpretation, as it would change drastically the truth of which I have found to be fact. Therefore, I challenge everyone who sees the pieces to take them, learn their concept, and test it.
