Sep 13thMy name is Rick Corbett. I am a graphite and colored pencil portrait artist. I am a self-taught artist. I am also a member of the Woburn Guild of Artists. I am inspired not only by other artists but from life itself. I am inspired by people, textures, smells, sounds, all my senses seem to come alive when I draw. My drawings take me on an artistic journey of self discovery. I feel my soul awaken when I draw. GOD has given me a gift and it's a gift I hope to use to bring people closer together. It's a gift I hope to use to capture the beauty that's in this World. I don't want my drawings to simply be pictures drawn on pieces of paper - I want my drawings to be a celebration of life. My portraits are like my children. I created them and I'm proud of them. I hope to change the way people "see" each other. Everyone is special in their own special way. People trul inspire me. I love to learn about people, I love to learn backgrounds, traditions, and cultures. I think this is why I became a portrait artist, it just seemed natural to me. Mar 13th, 2012Lowbrow is a widespread populist art movement with origins in the underground comix world, punk music, hot-rod street culture, and other subcultures. Lowbrow art often has a sense of humor - sometimes the humor is gleeful, sometimes impish, and sometimes it is a sarcastic comment. The single most common tactic that Lowbrow artists employ is to poke fun at convention. They know the "rules" of art, and consciously choose not to abide by them. If the test of time for legitimacy (as an artistic movement) means that Lowbrow speaks/spoke, in visual terms, to the millions of us who share a common cultural, symbolic language - albeit a "lower" or "middle" class, media-driven language - then, yes, Lowbrow is here to stay. Anthropologists will probably study Lowbrow in the future, to attempt to figure out late 20th and early 21st century U.S. societal influences.

Apr 1st, 2012The Taoistic philosopher Zhuang-Zi once expressed his attitude towards life: "Leap into the boundless and make it your home!" I totally agree and thus chose it as my guiding principle! Now, Henry Cartier-Bresson aptly provides a link between this Taoistic principle and photography: "Taking photographs (...) is a way of shouting, or freeing oneself, not of proving or asserting one's own originality. It is a way of life." So, in short, I take pictures because I love to and I love to take pictures because they are manifestations of a particular simple and sensitive attitude towards life. May 17th, 2011I have been shooting photos for about 4 years now. It’s always been, and I hope it will always be a hobby, but only time will tell. I have never had a desire to do this for a living, only because I love it so much, and it’s the best escape from my real life world of work and business. Photography relaxes me, allows me to see many amazing places and, more than anything, ESCAPE. My Interests include Nature: Landscapes, Waterscapes, Sky and Flowers. Over the past year I have had a few showings of my work, and even had some success with sales. This next year I plan to do more, and travel more. I enjoy learning hands-on and sharing what I’ve learn the same way. I believe that everything learned should be shared or it’s wasted. If you have any questions regarding my work, where it was shot, or how I did it, please ask. Feedback is always welcome. It’s the best learning tool in the world if you’re willing to listen.
